• In 1976 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence.
• In 1980, he specialised in Neurology at the University of Florence.
• In 1985 he specialised in Neurosurgery at the University of Padua.
• In 1988 he specialised in Endocrinology at the University of Florence.
• In 1987, he became Chief of Neurosurgery in Rome.
• In 1995, he specialised in Radiology/Radiotherapy Oncology at the University of Florence.

• From 1979 to 2000 he worked at the S.O.D. Neurosurgery 1 of the Careggi-Florence University Hospital as an Assistant.
• From 2000 to 2009 he worked as a Level I/C
• From 2009 to 2010 he worked as Acting Director
• From 2010 to 2019, he worked as a tenured director.

• He took part in about 11500 surgeries, of which about 7700 as first operator.

Dr. Ammanati is the author of about 170 scientific papers on neurosurgical topics and about 190 communications at congresses in Italy and abroad.
