Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect many organs, but usually involves the lungs and lymph nodes. It is characterized by the formation of small aggregates of inflammatory cells, called granulomas, which can damage tissues. Symptoms vary widely and can include fatigue, fever, cough, breathing difficulties and eye problems.
