San Rossore Academy is pleased to present the second edition of the Course“Foot and ankle injuries in football: from A to Z” at the prestigious San Rossore Sport Village, the Rehabilitation and Sports Center closely linked to the San Rossore Treatment Center, an event of national and international importance dedicated to an in-depth study of the latest techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of ankle and foot injuries. The course, directed by Prof. Niek Van Dijk, aims to provide participants with a comprehensive and in-depth scientific update on issues related to ankle injuries in the soccer player. The event, included in the national CME program, represents a unique opportunity for orthopedists, podiatrists, physical therapists, sports physicians and athletic trainers. The event, which will be presented by Prof. Paolo Parchi Director of the OU of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 1 at the Cisanello Hospital in Pisa and Lawyer Andrea Madonna, President of the San Rossore Group, is full of original contributions from experts from all over Europe and is conducted in English with the aid of simultaneous translation. A unique opportunity to delve into a topic of great interest to all those working in the field of Sports Medicine, combining scientific updating and networking in an exclusive setting. Course Objective.

The goal of the course is to provide up-to-date, evidence-based information on ankle, hindfoot, and Achilles injuries in soccer players-how to prevent, assess, and manage these injuries.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Better understand the risks of ankle injury and how to prevent them;
  • Distinguish between deep ankle pain and tenderness recognizable on palpation;
  • Manage acute and chronic ankle injuries and know which ones need intervention;
  • Distinguish between normal, high, and discomfort ankle sprain;
  • Differentiating laxity from instability;
  • Positioning the concept of microinstability;
  • Understand the long-term fate of bone bruises and whether they need treatment;
  • Knowing the origin of pain in Achilles tendinopathy;
  • To know the origin of pain in osteochondral defects and to understand which ones need treatment;
  • Implement the use of biological drugs, shock waves, and feed-forward training;
  • Recognize the “red risks” for soccer players who may be affected by career-ending disorders.
