• In 2003 he graduated with honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa.
• In 2007, he completed his specialisation in psychiatry with distinction.
• In 2009, he obtained an International Master’s Degree in Affective Neuroscience at the University of Florence and Maastricht University.
• In 2010, he obtained his PhD in Neurobiology and Clinical Affective Disorders.

• Until 2010, he carried out ward, outpatient and day hospital care activities at the University Psychiatric Clinic of Pisa and consultancy in fibromyalgia research studies at the University Rheumatology Clinic of Pisa.
• Since 2010, he has also performed ward, consultation, emergency room, outpatient and territorial care activities as a Level I Medical Director at the Azienda USL Toscana Nord Ovest (Tuscan North West Local Health Authority) with the positions of person in charge of eating disorders and psychiatric rehabilitation day centre, organising psycho-education courses on bipolar disorder for users and family members.

As Subject Matter Expert in the subject area ‘Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology’, he has been involved in research and teaching activities at the University of Pisa, ranging from clinical medicine to psychopharmacology, pharmacogenetics and biological psychiatry, publishing more than 70 scientific articles in national and international specialised journals, with keynote speaker presentations at numerous national and international congresses.
