Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the large intestine, characterized by inflammation and ulcers in the walls of the colon and rectum. Symptoms include bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps and weight loss. The exact cause is unknown, but it involves an alteration of the immune system. Treatment aims to control inflammation.
