Curriculum

Academic Education

  • Dr. Bertani graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa.
  • After five years, he specialised in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
  • In 2017, he obtained a Master’s degree in Advanced Abdominal Ultrasound Techniques in Gastroenterology from the University of Milan.
  • He has held numerous abdominal ultrasound courses in Italy and abroad, with a particular focus on ultrasound of the intestinal loops, which is useful for distinguishing whether or not non-specific symptoms such as diarrhoea or abdominal swelling have an inflammatory basis, thus avoiding the need for colonoscopy in many cases.
  • He is also pursuing a PhD in Clinical and Translational Sciences, with a research project on the impact of body composition in terms of free water, lean mass and fat mass in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

Professional Training

He has devoted many years to the study and research of oesophageal diseases (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux) and functional diseases of the lower digestive tract (Constipation, Functional Diarrhoea, Chronic Meteorism, Irritable Bowel Syndrome). In particular, he devoted himself to the management of these patients with an approach based on lifestyle and diet modification, thus trying to avoid taking drugs (such as proton pump inhibitors, prokinetics or laxatives) chronically whenever possible. In addition to the nutritional approach to various gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases, he also deals with the management of nutrition before, during and after sports activities (competitive or non-competitive).

Publications

He is the author or co-author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed international medical journals (H-index 8), with research projects conducted personally or in collaboration with leading Italian hospitals, as well as a speaker at numerous Italian and international congresses.
