  • In 1981 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pisa.
  • In 1981 he qualified as a Medical Surgeon following a State Examination taken at the University of Pisa.
  • In 1981, he took the State Examination and qualified as a surgeon.
  • In 1986, he specialised in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the University of Pisa’s School of Specialisation in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
  • In 1991, he obtained a PhD in ‘Clinic and pathophysiology of the organs of movement’ from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

  • From 1989 to 1990 he served as Assistant Orthopaedic Physician at the USL 12 Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Pisa.
  • In 1991, he served as Orthopaedic Medical Assistant at the USL 12 Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Pisa.
  • From 1991 to 1994, he served as Assistant Orthopaedic Physician at the USL 12 Orthopaedic Clinic in Pisa.
  • From 1995 to 2018, he served as medical director level 2 at the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Pisana.

  • He carried out a Fellowship in Sports Medicine-Arthroscopic Surgery of the Hip, Knee and Ankle, at the Sports Medicine Service Department, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, Beijing (China), participating in clinical research projects concerning the treatment of complex multi-ligament knee injuries.

During his time at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, he participated in numerous research projects concerning anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the treatment of meniscal injuries and the application of computer-assisted technologies to prosthetic surgery.

The various research activities carried out in Italy and abroad include:

  • Dal 2012 collabora al Progetto di Ricerca Finalizzata “Ricostruzione del Legamento Crociato Anteriore: modellazione biomeccanica per la selezione del trattamento per prevenire l’osteoartrite”.
    Since 2014, he has been leading research activities for the clinical part of the Young Researchers Project ‘Multi-Scale Modeling for Predictive Characterization of Ligaments and Grafts Behavior in ACL Reconstruction’.
  • Since 2011, he has been collaborating on the project ‘Prospective randomised double-blind multi-centre clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Z-Lig™ medical device compared to allergenic graft for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction’.

He has participated as moderator or speaker at numerous national and international congresses and theoretical-practical courses.

  • Dal 2016 al 2020 è stato Dirigente Medico nel Reparto di Chirurgia Artroscopia dell’Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi di Milano dove si occupava di Traumatologia Sportiva di Spalla e Ginocchio: lesioni tendinee, menischi, legamentose e cartilaginee, lussazioni, traumi distorsivi.
  • Dal 2018 è Orthopedic Director del Formula Medicine, società responsabile dell’assistenza sanitaria in Formula 1.
