Professional Training and Experience
Since 2001, Dr. Maurizio Mazzantini has held the position of Senior Consultant (Level I Medical Director) at the Pisa University Hospital (Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Pisa), where he holds a highly specialized appointment in the medical treatment of fragility vertebral fractures.
He works within the University Rheumatology Unit, Department of Medical and Surgical Specialties, carrying out clinical, outpatient, and high-complexity service coordination activities.
He is Head of the Rheumatology Inpatient Ward and provides specialist outpatient care in several areas of rheumatology, with particular focus on skeletal disorders, arthritis, and chronic diseases with a high impact on patients’ quality of life.

His main areas of clinical and research activity include primary and secondary osteoporosis, metabolic bone diseases (including Paget’s disease, hypophosphatasia, and osteogenesis imperfecta), rare causes of skeletal fragility, and osteosclerotic diseases.
He also focuses on skeletal effects of glucocorticoids and other medications, vertebral fractures, and integrated treatment and rehabilitation pathways, including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.
His scientific activity includes 43 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and continuous involvement in the main national scientific societies in the field, including leadership roles. He is regularly invited as a speaker and moderator at courses and conferences dedicated to bone metabolism.

Rheumatologist with over twenty years of experience, he specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skeletal and bone metabolism disorders, with particular focus on osteoporosis and fragility vertebral fractures.
He carries out both outpatient and inpatient clinical activity and coordinates highly complex specialist services. He has extensive expertise in the management of metabolic and rare bone diseases, including genetic forms and conditions secondary to pharmacological or oncological treatments.
He works within multidisciplinary care pathways for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with vertebral fractures, including procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. Alongside clinical practice, he maintains an intense scientific research activity, with numerous international publications and continuous participation in the leading scientific societies in the field.
